As on the north side, the south chapels were the first to be laid out on this side of the building. The coursing of all three chambers is consistent to a considerable height, indicating that work progressed on all three at the same rate.

As work was progressing to the west, the south choir continued to rise.

Work continued on the south choir, raising it to the level of the capitals of the windows.

Finally, the south choir was raised to its full height.
